The Gretna Get-Away

Postponed because of Covid, this Gretna-Getaway finally happened in July 2022

What was the best part of your day?

I think the favourite part of our day was seeing the horse and carriage and sharing that special moment with our children and hearing the bagpipes play. And seeing our son Harry reading his best man’s speech. The expressions on his face and how he made the whole room laugh with his jokes i don’t think we’ll ever forget that moment. At age 8 how he stood up despite all his challenges. We were incredibly proud of him. Our only regret was that nobody filmed that moment. I’m usually the first to pick up my phone. But wanted to enjoy the day without my phone.

Why did you choose your wedding venue

Adele says 'Myself and Chris chose the Mill Forge in Gretna because the venue was really warm and welcoming. The chapel had a magical feel the minute we saw it with the sparkly lights at night and the water wheel all lit up. In all weathers when we visited, it felt like the one. We originally came to visit for my birthday which falls on burns night and we fell in love. The drive felt exciting as it a mini adventure, especially with the beautiful scenery on the way. And we got to share that with everyone when they made the drive to our wedding.

The staff genuinely cared and made you feel like you were part of a family. The beautiful flower gardens, quirky phone box and signs really drew us in. We chose the venue because it was rustic . So we went with this theme. Chris has always had a love for making things so we spent a lot of time making our own wooden signs and hand writing everything ourselves. I even got to surprise Chris by making a rustic sign with a fish theme for his love of fishing.

If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change / do differently?

Maybe we would have arrived an extra day earlier to we could have had 5 minutes together with our family without the mad rush. There was so much we loved and wanted everyone to see. But I’m sure we will all get back over because everyone fell in love as much as we did.

Is there anything else you'd like to say about your wedding?

'We went with fresh flowers last minute after a flower disaster and we were so glad we did. I get to see my dried flowers every day and they looked so beautiful in the photos. Our cake was frosted and had handmade peg dolls of me and Chris personalised on top. We even made our own rustic cake stand. Everyone loved our signing book'.

'Our pictures from our pre shoot were a huge hit and We love getting to look back at them in our keepsakes. Chris proposed in front of our favourite waterfall walk in Goathland. And to share our favourite walk with Vikki really made things feel so much more special.

We loved how relaxed Vikki made us feel in front of the camera and how she felt like a friend and not just a photographer. The photos looked so natural and not forced. And every moment and detail was captured. So we felt relaxed that we didn’t need to pick up a phone which is a habit in our house'.

My wedding dress was chosen at the same place my mum took me for my prom dress (Nathalie French) so it felt right when I found the one. But has now sadly closed'
